New York City (2022)

I had an opportunity to be in Manhattan during April, as I was sent by my company to deliver life saving material to a cancer patient.

My wife mentioned that she would like to join me on this trip.  I made all the necessary arrangements and we were on our way.

After the delivery to the hospital, we found our hotel (Hotel Even on West 35th Street).  The nice receptionist asked us to wait for about a couple of hour (It was 8:00 am when we arrived) and wait for our room to be cleaned and ready for us.

We left our luggage with the concierge and headed towards 7th Avenue.  On our way we spotted a great bagels bakery/restaurant called Liberty Bagels.  We bought a couple of bagels, juice and coffee and returned to the hotel where we had our delicious breakfast in their restaurant (which has not had an operative kitchen due to Covid restrictions).

By the time we finished our meal the room was ready and we were happy campers.  We took a long nap and woke up at 3:00 pm.

We took the subway to Brooklyn and exited at High Street Station and then found the entry to the Brooklyn Bridge.

It was Tova’s dream to cross the bridge on feet towards Manhattan.  It was such a beautiful day and we enjoyed sunshine and comfortable temps.  The scenery was fantastic!!!

Once we crossed the bridge we walked to one of my favorite Chinese Restaurants in Chinatown.  We asked Google Maps to lead us and 20 minutes later we arrived to Noodles Village for an early dinner.  It was a fantastic meal!

We then decided to walk back the 6 miles back towards our hotel.  It took a couple of hours and we arrived to Times Square and then a few more blocks and we were back in our hotel’s room.

We woke up early and the weather picture was not as nice as yesterday.  The skies were gray and rain was in the forecast.  We already had plans to go to MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and purchased our tickets last night.

On our way we passed Time Square and saw a taping of GMA (Good Morning America) with Robin Roberts!!

We had a good breakfast and walked to 53rd Street where the museum is located.  It was easy to find as hundreds of people already stood in line, in the middle of the street, to get in.

Once inside we were disappointed to learn that the most desired floor with paintings by Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrandt and other great painters will not be available today due to some maintenance on the 5th floor.  We did have a list of the 25 most popular paintings in MOMA and we toured those that we could.

On our way out I found a manager and expressed my disappointment and to my surprise she refunded our tickets worth and invited us to be her guess, next time we are in the Big Apple.

Once outside we braved the rain and found a Starbucks coffee not far from the museum.  We sat there for an hour until the storm will pass by.

Not far from our hotel stands the largest department store in the city: The world famous macy's.  The facade was decorated to welcome the spring and it was absoltely spectacular!

We already made reservations to our next attraction, 3 days ago.  Today was dedicated to a visit to the United Nations, which just opened today for the first time in months (due to the pandemic).

We walked for about 45 minutes and arrived to the complex on 1st Avenue.  First we had to be cleared by the security services and once we got cleared we entered the complex.  Our guided tour was not due for another hour, so we just looked around and visited the “Children and War” Exhibition.

Our tour started promptly at 10:00 and our guide’s name was Haddas.  We were joined by a group of diplomats from Canada, who came as guests of the UN.  We felt very important for the next 90 minutes, as Haddas gave the guests from canada a VIP tour, visiting the Security Council Hall, among other sections of the United Nation, while they were debating about the Russian invasion to the Ukraine.

Once back in the streets, we walked to a famous Jewish Deli named 2nd Avenue Deli, where we ordered our favorite sandwich: Pastrami & Corn Beef on a rye.  It was a spectacular meal.

The rain returned and we rushed to our hotel to dry off and rest.

Tomorrow we were scheduled to return home!
